Shop Borderland (shopborderland.ca) is the online store of the Borderland stores in Brandon, Morden, Portage la Prairie and Thompson, Manitoba. This page explains what personal information we collect, why, and who we share it with. We follow Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
What we collect
- Orders: your name, email, phone number, billing and shipping address, the items you buy, and the store you choose for pickup.
- Payments: handled by Stripe. Your card number goes to Stripe, not to us, and we never store it. If you choose Klarna or Affirm, they handle that application and payment.
- Messages: what you send us through the website chat, an “Ask about availability” request or a text to (431) 500-4828, along with the name, email and phone number you give us.
- Reviews: after an order we ship to you, the order confirmation page may show an invitation from Google Customer Reviews to rate your purchase. To offer it, we pass Google your email address, order number, delivery country and estimated delivery date; Google uses them to send you a short survey only if you accept. Store pickup orders do not get the invitation.
- Website use: Google Analytics records how the site is used (pages visited, device and browser type, general location) using cookies.
How we use it
To process, ship and prepare your orders for pickup, send order confirmations and updates, answer your questions and availability requests, prevent fraud, keep the records the law requires, and improve the website. We do not sell your personal information.
Who we share it with
Only the companies that help us run the store, and only what they need:
- Stripe, and Klarna or Affirm if you choose them, to take payment;
- our website host (Hostinger), where the store and your order records are kept;
- Twilio, which delivers our text messages;
- shipping carriers, who need your name, address and phone number to deliver your order;
- Google, for website analytics, and Google Customer Reviews if you accept the survey invitation after an order (see Google’s privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy);
- our own Borderland stores, when your order is picked up or shipped from one of them.
Some of these companies may store information outside Canada, where it is subject to the laws of that country.
Cookies and your browser
The store uses cookies to keep your cart and sign-in working, and Google Analytics uses cookies to measure visits. The store you pick is remembered in your browser so we can show its stock next time. “Use my location” in the store picker uses your device’s location only in your browser to find your nearest store; it is not sent to us. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but the cart may not work without them.
How long we keep it
Order and payment records are kept as long as Canadian tax law requires, generally six years. Messages are kept while we need them to help you.
Your choices
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted where the law allows. To stop receiving texts from us, reply STOP.
